Woodwork has usually been coated with undercoat and gloss over the years, but more recently the trend seems to be moving towards softer finishes such as satinwood which has a sheen instead of a shine. Alternatively, if you really want a subtle paint finish there’s eggshell, once again all options are available in full range of colours.
If your woodwork is currently stained or varnished and you would like it brightening up, then you can consider painting it with gloss, satin or eggshell to achieve the look you’re after.
